The Tennebroeck Homemakers Club is one of the oldest clubs in DeKalb County. Most of the present members are daughters of the original founding members. In the past, the Tenbroeck Homemakers have made mattresses, caned chairs, and learned about early methods of food preservation. Now we have a different educational program every month, ranging from computer basics to caring for furniture. Our club has always been very community oriented. Our projects include decorating a Christmas Tree at the Fyffe Post Office, making Christmas baskets for widow and widowers, sewing cancer caps, making Boo Boo Babies for the DeKalb County Health Dept., making walker bags for the Morning Glory Nursing Home patients, reading at Fyffe pre-school, and helping with the Fyffe After-School program. Some of our members are Red Cross Volunteers as well as volunteers for countless other organizations. We hold a Bible Study in conjunction with Camp Ponderosa for disaster relief victims. We sponsor a Essay and Artwork Contest on the Pillars of Character for the Fourth Grade Class at Fyffe Elementary School. We support the Tenbroeck Volunteer Fire Department by selling knives. Our main charitable project is the American Cancer Society. We participate in the Relay for Life every year. We raise money by preparing meals for area businesses. Our average contribution to the ACS is $3000. |
